The Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, alongside the Associate Dean for Administrative Affairs, held an extensive orientation meeting with newly admitted postgraduate students (Master’s and Ph.D. candidates) at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, for the new academic year. The session was attended by the Head of the Postgraduate Studies Division, the Postgraduate Studies Coordinator, and several heads of scientific departments across the college.
The meeting primarily aimed to familiarize incoming students with the academic and research directives established by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the University of Baghdad, outline the academic calendar and research preparation phases, and highlight the rigorous scholarly obligations, behavioral standards, and ethical commitments expected of postgraduate researchers throughout their specialized academic journey.
Discussions addressed several core areas, including attendance regulations, course assessment standards across academic semesters, optimal utilization of reputable global databases and knowledge repositories, and procedural guidelines for research proposal defense and topic selection, emphasizing innovative research that addresses clinical healthcare priorities and community nursing needs.
The meeting concluded with affirmations of comprehensive administrative and academic support to facilitate students’ transition, urging researchers to maintain scientific integrity, innovation, and scholarly excellence. An open floor discussion followed, addressing students’ inquiries regarding communication channels with academic departments and administrative units to ensure a productive start to their graduate studies.
The objectives of this orientation meeting align closely with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) advanced by the College of Nursing at the University of Baghdad—particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being)—by preparing highly skilled nurse researchers and scholars equipped to elevate health system standards and advance clinical nursing quality across Iraq.
