The College of Nursing at the University of Baghdad took first place in the annual rankings of university psychological counseling units’ performance during the “University Psychological Counseling Forum” organized by the university today, Sunday, September 20, 2026, under the patronage and in the presence of the university president, as part of its preparations for the new 2026–2027 academic year.

The forum featured a review of the programs and activities of psychological counseling units across the university’s various colleges and centers, which ranged from preventive initiatives to support sessions and individual and group counseling. Part of the sessions was also dedicated to presenting case studies and success stories of students who benefited from these interventions in overcoming academic and personal challenges, while fully adhering to ethical standards and the principles of confidentiality and privacy.

The College of Nursing was awarded first place in recognition of the excellence of its counseling unit and its leadership in meeting evaluation criteria, as well as the comprehensiveness of its student support programs and the quality of its documentation of initiatives carried out during the past academic year.

The Dean of the College of Nursing, Prof. Dr. Wissam Jabbar Qasim, expressed his pride in this honor, stating, “This ranking is the result of a clear approach that views psychological well-being as a true partner in academic excellence. We are committed to providing a supportive and stable learning environment; the nursing profession requires the preparation of confident, well-balanced professionals capable of effectively fulfilling their humanitarian role.”

For her part, the head of the college’s University Psychological Counseling Unit, Professor Dr. Waddad Kamel Muhammad, explained, “Our first-place ranking reflects our ongoing efforts to provide innovative counseling and therapeutic solutions that address students’ realities and help them overcome stress and achieve success. This recognition motivates us to launch a broader range of programs designed to serve our students as the new academic year begins.”

This achievement is part of the university’s efforts to implement the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3, “Good Health and Well-being,” through support for mental health, and Goal 4, “Quality Education,” by providing a learning environment that fosters excellence and stability.
