The College of Nursing at the University of Baghdad held a defense of the master’s thesis by researcher Hassan Hussein Jafar, titled “The Relationship Between Selfie Addiction and Narcissistic Traits Among University Students.” The defense was supervised by Professor Dr. Hassan Hussein Ali in the college’s Museum Hall.
The study primarily aimed to evaluate and examine the nature of the relationship between selfie addiction and levels of narcissistic traits among undergraduate students.
The study’s results revealed a strong, statistically significant positive correlation between selfie addiction and the prevalence of narcissistic traits among the study sample.
Based on the research findings, the study recommended the development of psychological awareness programs tailored to students that focus on understanding the behavioral and psychological motivations behind excessive selfie-taking, as well as calling on researchers to conduct longitudinal studies over extended periods to track the development of these behaviors and traits and their psychological effects. Following an extensive scientific discussion, the researcher’s efforts were recognized with a distinction grade.
The findings of this study align with the Sustainable Development Goals that the College of Nursing at the University of Baghdad seeks to promote, particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), by highlighting the mental and behavioral health of university students and providing recommendations that support mental health prevention and behavioral balance in the
academic and community environments.
