The Continuing Education Unit at the Faculty of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized workshop entitled “Pediatric IV access: strategies for successful cannulation” with a joint lecture presented by Assistant Professor Ahmed Wissam Shaker and Assistant Professor Suzan Ali Abdul Hassan in the presence of a group of students from the Faculty of Primary Studies in Hall No.
The workshop focused on scientific topics related to the reasons for inserting intravenous catheters in children and how to identify the appropriate veins according to the child’s age and condition and the size of the catheter used, with an explanation of the safe steps for insertion and identification of possible complications and appropriate nursing interventions, as well as the application of special nursing considerations when providing intravenous treatment to this age group.
The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations that emphasized the need to apply the principles learned in daily clinical practice with children under the supervision of specialists and full compliance with special nursing considerations during intravenous therapy, with the importance of continuous education of the nursing team on the correct and safe steps and professional handling of any complications that may arise. This workshop is part of the periodic scientific activities of the college’s continuing education unit to enhance students’ practical skills and contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals, specifically the fourth goal of quality education.
