The college of Nursing at the University of Baghdad discussed the master’s thesis entitled “The effectiveness of the guidance program in the healthy lifestyle of patients with chronic diseases in primary health care centers in the city of Diwaniya” by student Ahmed Daoud Salman under the supervision of Professor Dr. Zahid Jassim Mohammed, in the great hall of the college

The study mainly aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational and guidance program in improving the quality of life and behaviors of patients suffering from chronic diseases. The study focused on measuring the positive impact of the guidance program through several indicators, as the results showed a significant improvement in the health behaviors of the participating patients. There was also an increase in their awareness and knowledge of the nature of their chronic diseases and how to live with them by adopting healthy lifestyles. One of the most notable practical outcomes of the study was a decrease in participants’ body mass index (BMI) and a significant increase in their physical activity levels. The researcher received an “A” grade.

The study recommended the necessity of adopting and expanding the application of educational programs in all primary health care centers. It also emphasized the importance of promoting general community awareness of healthy lifestyles, not only as a therapeutic tool for patients, but also as an effective preventive approach to reduce the spread of chronic diseases and their risks.
Such studies are not only important for the health sector, but also a key pillar in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 3: “Ensure healthy lifestyles and well-being for all at all ages.”
