As part of the regular activities of the University Psychological Counseling Unit at the Faculty of Nursing, University of Baghdad, an awareness lecture was held entitled “Psychological Counseling Strategies for Nursing Students: Psychological Safety and Its Importance for University Students,” presented by Professor Dr. Widad Kamel Muhammad. The lecture addressed the concept of psychological safety in its academic, psychological, and behavioral dimensions, highlighting its pivotal role in supporting mental health and promoting university adaptation among students

The lecture explained that psychological safety is one of the fundamental pillars of a healthy university environment, as it provides a deep sense of acceptance, respect, and trust, which gives students the ability to express their thoughts and feelings freely without fear of ridicule or exclusion. She also pointed out that providing this environment effectively contributes to reducing anxiety and stress levels and enhances motivation to learn and participate in class, in addition to its role in building strong positive relationships with peers and faculty members

Dr. Widad Kamel emphasized the essential role of students in promoting psychological safety, stressing that they are an active component in building this system. as it is not limited to the role of the educational institution, but depends to a large extent on students’ awareness and daily behaviors, such as respecting individual and intellectual differences, committing to the values of constructive dialogue, and refraining from bullying. She also pointed out the importance of mutual psychological support among colleagues, committing to responsible behavior when using social media, and avoiding abuse or spreading rumors to ensure an environment that supports professional and personal growth

The topic of the lecture is in line with the college’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), which focuses on promoting mental health and well-being for all, and Goal 4 (Quality Education) by striving to provide safe, violence-free, and inclusive learning environments, which contribute to improving academic achievement and building the personality of university students in an integrated manner
