The college of Nursing at Baghdad University celebrated World Arabic Language Day by holding a diverse cultural and literary festival that reflected the depth of belonging to the Arabic language and the importance of preserving cultural heritage. The festival was organized by the Nursing Fundamentals Branch and the Student Activities Division at the faculty.
The festival, which was attended by a group of professors and students in the college’s main hall, featured a rich variety of segments that combined academic research and literary creativity. The events opened with a scientific lecture by Professor Dr. Nima Dahsh Farhan, in which he discussed the status of the Arabic language and its role in preserving the intellectual and cognitive identity of the nation, as well as its importance in establishing cultural awareness and promoting integration between the humanities and applied sciences. This was followed by a presentation by Prof. Dr. Arkan Rahim Jabr on his paper entitled “The Arabic Language: Its Continuity and Authenticity,” while Prof. Dr. Sahab Muhammad Al-Asadi recited his poem entitled “The Harvest of Magic” to the audience. Student creativity was also on display, with Mustafa Ali Hussein participating with a literary work entitled “The Preserved Corner,” and Aisha Sabah Alwan presenting an intellectual essay entitled “The Identity of the Letter Zay and the Spirit of the Nation.” The presentations concluded with a poem by student Aya Ammar entitled “Fog” in the college’s main hall.
This celebration is in line with the college’s vision of achieving sustainable development goals, specifically the fourth goal related to quality education, as mastery of the mother tongue is a cornerstone for understanding science and improving the quality of output, as well as Goal 11 on sustainable cities and communities, specifically in its objective of protecting and preserving cultural heritage, considering that language is a vessel of civilization and an integral part of national identity and community development.
