The Maternal and Child Nursing Department at the Faculty of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a scientific field visit to the Baghdad/Rusafa Health Department, specifically to the Public Health Division’s Communicable Diseases and Immunodeficiency Sections. The visit was attended by third-year students and supervised directly by the department’s teaching staff. It was part of the department’s field training plan and its efforts to link theoretical knowledge with practical reality
It aimed to introduce students to the nature of work in these vital departments and to give them a close look at the services provided and the monitoring and prevention mechanisms used to limit the spread of communicable diseases and immunodeficiency. During their tour, the students listened to a detailed explanation given by the department managers and specialist doctors, who focused on the importance of community education as a first line of defense and the need to adhere to preventive measures, emphasizing the importance of health workers receiving the necessary vaccinations, foremost among which is the
hepatitis B vaccine, to ensure their safety and that of their patient
This visit is doubly important as it is a practical translation of the Sustainable Development Goals; it is at the heart of Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), which aims to end epidemics and infectious diseases such as AIDS, hepatitis, and others, as training nurses who are aware of infection control protocols contributes to strengthening the national health system. The visit also achieves Goal 4 (Quality Education) by providing an interactive learning environment that goes beyond the traditional classroom setting, honing students’ skills and increasing their professional readiness to deal with future health challenges
