The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized workshop titled “Obesity and Silent Inflammation,” which featured fruitful academic collaboration, with a joint lecture delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Noor al-Huda Khalil Ibrahim and Lecturer Dr. Sinan Thaer Abdul Wahab from Al-Turath University. The Continuing Education Hall brought together a select group of professors, staff, and undergraduate and graduate students to discuss this important health issue.
The workshop aimed to enhance medical understanding of the complex relationship between fat accumulation and the onset of silent inflammation, which negatively affects vital bodily functions, while training participants on early detection mechanisms using clinical signs and precise laboratory tests. The workshop also reviewed integrated preventive and therapeutic strategies, including lifestyle management through healthy nutrition, regular physical activity, and necessary pharmacological interventions to reduce the health risks associated with this phenomenon.
This scientific event is a direct response to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 on good health and well-being, by combating noncommunicable diseases and reducing their chronic causes in Iraqi society. It also aligns with Goal 4 on quality education by providing continuous educational platforms that enhance the competence of nursing staff and students and equip them with the latest medical knowledge to ensure sustainable healthcare based on prevention rather than treatment, thereby contributing to the building of a healthy and productive society that meets international standards of quality of life.
