The Continuing Education Unit at the Faculty of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized workshop entitled “Emotional Intelligence in Education,” which was presented jointly by Assistant Professor Marwa Saleh Muslim and Assistant Professor Ayat Hussein Hamid. The workshop was attended by a group of undergraduate students who explored mechanisms for integrating emotions into science to enhance academic and professional performance.

The workshop aimed to teach students the concepts of emotional intelligence as an essential tool for enhancing empathy and self-awareness, helping them to understand their own feelings and those of others and build strong positive relationships within and outside the university environment. It also reviewed practical applications of emotional intelligence in the classroom through interactive group activities that foster a spirit of cooperation and develop social communication skills.

The lecture also addressed strategies for managing psychological stress and providing students with skills to deal with stress and academic anxiety through social-emotional learning, which includes identifying personal values, making responsible decisions, and controlling behavior and emotions to ensure psychological stability that positively reflects on the educational process and develops social awareness through empathy with others and managing conflicts and disagreements in professional ways.

The workshop concluded with key recommendations emphasizing that emotional intelligence is a fundamental pillar for improving academic performance, developing inspirational leadership skills, and preparing students to face the challenges of the nursing profession in the future with an integrated humanistic and scientific vision. This event was considered a qualitative shift that moves students from the theoretical framework to practical application in their daily behavior and future careers, in line with sustainable development goals, foremost among which is quality education.
