In line with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s vision to improve medical education outcomes and further institutional integration among public universities, chaired by Prof. Dr. Wissam Jabbar Qasim 2026 -2025, the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Karbala hosted the third session of the Council of Deans of Nursing Faculties for the academic year, attended by the deans of nursing faculties from various Iraqi universities. The President of the Council opened the session with a speech in which he emphasized that the regular meetings of the Council represent a strategic platform for unifying academic and administrative visions, stressing the need to combine efforts to develop realistic solutions to the challenges facing nursing colleges, ensuring that their paths are aligned with national plans to advance the health sector.
The participants reviewed a busy agenda of key topics, including updating curricula in line with approved international standards, strengthening academic accreditation requirements, ensuring institutional performance quality, developing examination and assessment mechanisms, organizing admission policies and postgraduate study plans, and introducing specialized academic programs that meet meet the rapidly changing needs of the healthcare job market, thereby contributing to raising the efficiency of graduates and enhancing their scientific and professional level in all medical fields.
At the end of the session, the Council devoted a special section to discussing the role of nursing colleges in achieving sustainable development goals, particularly the third goal related to good health and well-being. Attendees emphasized that the development of nursing education is a fundamental pillar for ensuring the sustainability of the health system in Iraq by providing it with qualified national talent capable of providing safe and comprehensive health care This contributes to building a healthy and stable society in line with the global environmental and ethical standards adopted by modern educational institutions in pursuit of a sustainable healthy future for generations to come.
