The college of Nursing at the University of Baghdad discussed a qualitative doctoral thesis submitted by researcher Razzaq Jawad Khalaf, entitled “The effectiveness of an educational program on the knowledge and health beliefs of college students about type 2 diabetes” under the supervision of Professor Dr. Arkan Bahloul Naji in the great hall of the college.

The thesis aimed to measure the impact of an educational program designed to raise the level of knowledge and correct the health beliefs of university youth about type 2 diabetes, which is witnessing an increasing prevalence.

The results of the study conclusively proved the success and effectiveness of the educational program, as statistical analysis showed the following: A significant increase in the level of knowledge of the participating students about diabetes, including risk factors, symptoms, and methods of prevention. A positive reinforcement of their health beliefs, which increases the likelihood that they will adopt healthy behaviors and lifestyles to prevent the disease. The thesis made a very important strategic recommendation, calling for the establishment of close and systematic cooperation between the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Health.

This cooperation aims to launch and expand educational and educational programs within universities and colleges to increase students’ awareness of the risks of chronic diseases, especially diabetes.

The researcher received an “A” grade. The importance of this study is not limited to the academic aspect, but represents a practical step towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goal 3 (good health and well-being) and Goal 4 (quality education), by empowering youth with the necessary knowledge to protect their health and future.
