The Continuing Education Unit at the Faculty of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized workshop entitled “Effective Communication Skills and Conflict Resolution among Colleagues and Students,” presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Zaid Wahid Ajel and Assistant Teacher Huda Wasfi Radwi, in the presence of a group of undergraduate students in Hall No. 3 at the faculty.
The workshop aimed to enhance students’ efficiency in applying communication strategies and resolving disputes within the educational and clinical environment, thereby contributing to improving teamwork and the quality of healthcare.

The workshop included scientific topics that focused on defining the concept of effective communication and professional conflict in the nursing environment and explaining the common causes of conflicts between colleagues and students, with a clear distinction between positive and negative communication styles within the same team. Participants were also trained in active listening skills and constructive feedback in academic and clinical situations and clinical situations, how to evaluate different conflict resolution methods and choose the most appropriate ones for critical situations, and how to propose practical plans to promote a healthy communication environment based on cooperation.

The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations emphasizing that communication and conflict resolution skills are essential professional competencies in nursing and health education and not merely personal skills, as clear communication based on respect contributes to building cohesive work teams and reduces professional errors, thereby improving patient safety. The researchers also stressed that investing in training students and practitioners in these skills enhances their professional readiness and improves academic and clinical performance in an environment based on mutual trust.

This activity is part of the college’s continuing education unit’s efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, foremost among which is Goal 4 (Quality Education), by keeping pace with modern professional requirements and providing students with the life and professional skills that ensure their success in complex work environments.
