The Women’s Affairs Unit at the Faculty of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized workshop entitled “Parenting Without Yelling,” presented by Prof. Dr. Azra Hussein Shawq, with the active participation of faculty members and staff to promote awareness of healthy parenting methods that avoid emotional outbursts and verbal abuse.
The workshop aimed to improve the quality of the relationship between parents and children by highlighting the psychological pressures that drive educators to resort to emotional outbursts as an alternative to dialogue, with a detailed explanation of the negative psychological and behavioral repercussions of shouting on the child’s personality development and emotional stability in the future, as well as presenting advanced practical strategies for controlling anger and using constructive dialogue methods to correct behavior, thereby ensuring the building of bridges of trust within the family and the academic community through the discussion of real-life cases answered with a modern scientific and educational perspective.
This initiative embodies the role of the Women’s Affairs Unit in providing knowledge and psychological support to women and the academic community, contributing to the development of psychologically healthy generations capable of facing challenges. This activity achieves the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 5 (Gender Equality) through the educational empowerment of women, and Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) by rejecting all forms of violence and establishing the values of social peace, starting with the family as the nucleus of society.
