The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Baghdad discussed a doctoral thesis entitled “The effectiveness of the educational program for nursing interventions in the administration of chemotherapy to cancer patients”, by the researcher Haider Mohammed Jabbar under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sabah Abbas Ahmed in the Grand Hall of the College.

The thesis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational program specifically designed to improve the knowledge and practices of nursing staff in dealing with cancer patients while giving them chemotherapy.

The results of the study showed a significant and remarkable improvement in the level of nursing knowledge and practices of the group that underwent the educational program. In the post-program test, their average knowledge scores increased significantly from 1.40 to 1.75, and their practices improved from 1.42 to 1.80. In contrast, the group that did not receive the program showed little improvement.

The thesis recommended the need to implement this developed educational program and intensify similar training courses in the Continuing Nursing Education Unit, to raise the level of efficiency of nursing staff in oncology units. The researcher received a very good estimate for his thesis.

This study contributes directly to achieving the third goal of the Sustainable Development Goals: “Good health and well-being”. By developing an educational program that improves the quality of health care for cancer patients, the thesis enhances the professional efficiency of nursing staff, which reflects positively on the health and safety of patients. This thesis is also a model of scientific research that serves the community and supports the efforts of health institutions in achieving comprehensive and high-quality health coverage.
