The Human Rights Unit at the Faculty of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized awareness workshop for fourth-year students entitled “The Health and Social Effects of Drugs in Light of Human Rights Principles” at the faculty. The workshop focused on scientific topics related to the definition of drugs, their types, and their health and physiological effects on the nervous system and general health, while reviewing the profound social effects of drug abuse and its repercussions on family and community stability

The workshop produced a set of important recommendations that emphasized the need to intensify awareness programs in academic institutions and strengthen cooperation between the health and education sectors to combat drug abuse, in addition to supporting preventive and therapeutic programs and spreading a culture of human rights related to the protection of mental and physical health, with an emphasis on activating the role of psychological counseling and training teaching staff on early detection mechanisms and encouraging students to actively participate in research and activities related to this issue

This activity is part of the activities of the college’s human rights unit aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, foremost among which are Goal 3 on good health and well-being, Goal 4 on quality education, and Goal 16 on peace, justice, and strong institutions to ensure a safe learning environment and a secure society
