The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized an intensive training course titled “Adult Health: Delaying Risk Factors for Chronic Diseases” as part of initiatives aimed at serving the community and strengthening the role of the family in human development. Dr. Safad Riad Issam led the course, which was met with enthusiastic participation and a strong turnout from the college’s professors and faculty members.

The course aimed to focus on comprehensive health concepts and identify risk factors for chronic diseases—recognized as the greatest health challenge of our time, as they deplete both individual health and societal resources—while emphasizing that a significant proportion of these diseases can be delayed or prevented entirely by modifying lifestyle-related risk factors.

The training program included scientific sessions and practical workshops focused on the physiology of movement and the effects of physical inactivity; reading nutrition labels and identifying “white toxins”; determining appropriate types of exercise for adults; and explaining the synergistic relationship between healthy nutrition, sleep quality, and the prevention of chronic diseases.

The course concluded with final evaluation sessions during which participants reviewed the outcomes of the exercises, assessed their overall health, and discussed stress management techniques. They expressed their appreciation for this initiative, which highlights the pioneering community role of the College of Nursing at the University of Baghdad in raising health awareness, thereby contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, and Goal 4: Quality Education).
