⇓ About the college

The idea of establishing the College of Nursing was launched through the urgent need to prepare nursing staff with high scientific and practical efficiency in line with the scientific and technical technological development and in proportion to the need to provide preventive, curative and rehabilitative nursing services that promote maintaining the appropriate health level for the individual, family and society through the use of scientific means.

For this reason, the College of Nursing was established in 1962-1963 in cooperation between the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization, and in 1964 the college became affiliated with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research after it became a member of the University of Baghdad.

Since its establishment, the college has continued its march with determination by preparing educational programs and scientific activities and trying to provide the necessary supplies for that. Through this process, the college provided health and educational institutions with numbers of qualified graduates scientifically and practically holding scientific degrees such as bachelor’s, higher diploma, master’s and doctorate in various nursing specializations. The college has been able to achieve this thanks to its curricula, which express the accumulated scientific experience of the faculty members who are considered among the most aspiring in the field of nursing. Therefore, these curricula are distinguished by their scientific sobriety.

From the outset of its launch, the College was keen to raise the level of the nursing profession by making tangible changes in teaching methods, establishing continuing education activities, creating channels for cooperation and coordination with the beneficiaries, local and international organizations, and embarking on enhancing prospects for cultural exchange with Arab universities to send faculty members for the purposes of exchanging experiences. Attending conferences and conducting scientific research as well as participating in local advisory committees and seeking to provide scientific resources without the state bearing any financial consequences as a result of that. We cannot fail to mention but to mention the continuous support from His Excellency the Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Health and the President of the University of Baghdad to provide the necessary supplies related to the educational process.
