Introduction to the Department
This Department was established under the title “Internal Surgical Nursing” since the establishment of the college until 2005, when its title was changed to “Adult Nursing” in line with the developments in this specialty.
The scientific branch is specialized in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students (Masters and PhD). In the initial study, the branch teaches adult nursing in the second stage in a two-semester system to introduce students to the concepts of preventive and rehabilitative nursing care for acute and chronic adult diseases.
Teaching health assessment in the second stage of the study, in one semester system as well, where students learn about the different patterns of nursing care and how to prevent disease and early detection of it and provide integrated nursing care.
The adult nursing laboratories (1 and 2), equipped with the latest teaching aids, support the training of students in special nursing procedures.
The branch also teaches and supervises master’s and doctoral students in adult nursing.
Department Vision:
The Adult Nursing Branch of the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, aspires to occupy a leading position among all the various scientific branches in the college and the corresponding colleges, and to be able to compete with all institutions of higher education for nursing at the regional and international levels.
Department Mission:
The mission of the Adult Nursing Department lies in laying the foundations for the study of nursing at the university level by providing a scientific material that is compatible with modern concepts of nursing and clinical scientific skills to prepare a student who is motivated towards aspiration and continuous learning and is qualified to provide comprehensive nursing care for the various disciplines of adult nursing for patients and healthy adults in hospitals and health centers Providing various and growing educational experiences in various scientific disciplines through postgraduate programs in line with the requirements of the labor market, while conducting advanced scientific research in accordance with the approved research plan, as well as providing technical and training advice to community institutions.
Department objectives:
1. Acquaintance with the concepts of preventive and rehabilitative nursing care for acute and chronic diseases of adults.
2. The development of recent trends in nursing practices based on evidence of common diseases in Iraqi society.
3. Recognize the different patterns of nursing care related to drug therapy for adults.
4. Study of pollution, environmental risks and human behavior and their relationship to health and disease for adults.
5. The use of modern technological techniques in the nursing care of adults.
6. The use of technology in nursing education.
7. Implementation of the total quality system in health / nursing care.
8. Disease prevention and early detection.
9. Providing integrated nursing care (psychologically, physically, socially, culturally, and spiritually).
10. Familiarity with patterns of recognition of nutrition in health and disease.
