Driven by inter-institutional cooperation and guided by the motto “The University in Service of Society,” Professor Dr. Hawraa Hussein Ghafel conducted a specialized awareness workshop on breast cancer and self-examination techniques on Sunday, October 25, 2026. The session targeted female personnel at the Directorate of Medical Affairs in the Ministry of Defense at Al-Hussein Military Hospital, with the attendance of Hospital Director Dr. Mohammed Ramadan, alongside several military officers and female staff.
The workshop covered key awareness topics, highlighting breast cancer statistics, the vital role of early detection in improving treatment outcomes, key warning signs that necessitate medical consultation, and associated risk factors. Additionally, it outlined diagnostic procedures, treatment options, and preventive measures, accompanied by a practical demonstration of breast self-examination to enhance women’s health awareness.
The workshop concluded with recommendations emphasizing regular self-examinations and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle to reduce risk factors, including regular physical activity, a balanced diet, reduced processed food intake, weight management, and attention to mental well-being and chronic stress management. This initiative actively contributes to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and Goal 5 (Gender Equality), by empowering women and expanding access to comprehensive healthcare.
