The Scientific Affairs Unit at the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Baghdad organized an awareness workshop entitled “Fingerprints and diseases that lead to their loss”. The workshop was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Asmahan Adnan Abbas, and was attended by a group of teachers and staff in the College’s Continuing Education Hall.

The workshop aimed to introduce attendees to the importance of fingerprints, patterns, timing of their formation, and their vital role in human life. Fingerprints play a pivotal role in the sense of touch by transmitting sensory information to the brain and protecting the fingertips.

The workshop concluded with a set of important recommendations to maintain fingerprints and overall skin health, including adherence to a diet rich in vitamin D, such as salmon and eggs, and sun exposure and avoiding the use of skin-harmful chemicals such as alcohol and bleach. Maintain normal body temperature and avoid cool limbs through proper nutrition and wear gloves in cold seasons. Avoid professional practices that may harm the skin of the hands.

This workshop is part of the efforts of the Scientific Affairs Unit to support medical activities related to human health, promote prevention and treatment methods, and educate the community about the principle of “prevention is better than cure”. This workshop also contributes to the achievement of one of the Sustainable Development Goals, which is the third goal on good health and well-being.
