On Thursday, October 15, 2026, the Voluntary Work Committee at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a field and humanitarian visit to “Al-Rifaah Home for Elderly Care,” featuring a delegation of faculty members and students. This initiative aligns with ministerial directives and the university’s vision to enhance community service.

The visit aimed to provide health support and psychological care for the elderly residents, while assessing their physical and preventive needs. The volunteer team conducted comprehensive medical check-ups, including measuring blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and basic vital signs. Additionally, they offered educational guidance on healthy dietary patterns and methods for preventing chronic diseases during old age. The visit also featured the distribution of in-kind gifts, medical supplies, and protective equipment to the residents, in a warm and compassionate atmosphere that brought joy and comfort to their hearts.

In an exclusive statement, the Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Wisam Jabbar Qasim, emphasized that this initiative falls within the college’s social responsibility and humanitarian mission toward all segments of society, particularly the elderly, who deserve all forms of care and attention. He stated:

“Through involving students in these campaigns, we aim to instill values of social solidarity and foster the humanitarian spirit of the nursing profession as one that combines science, knowledge, and field compassion. We reaffirm the college’s commitment to continuing such initiatives in support of social care institutions, contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals—specifically Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), and Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities)—by extending support and care to vulnerable groups and senior citizens.”

The activity concluded with the management of Al-Rifaah Home for Elderly Care expressing their deep gratitude and appreciation to the Deanship of the College of Nursing and the Voluntary Work Committee, praising the leading role of academic and educational institutions in strengthening community ties and direct humanitarian service.
