The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized workshop titled “The Role of Government Institutions in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals,” presented by Assistant Professor Iman Hani and attended by a group of faculty members and staff interested in developing institutional performance in accordance with global sustainability standards.
The workshop aimed to clarify the essential role that government institutions play in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals by enhancing participants’ understanding of these goals and the mechanisms for integrating them into government policies and programs in a practical and effective manner, with a focus on the importance of strategic planning that carefully balances economic, social, and environmental dimensions to ensure resource sustainability and achieve societal well-being. The lecture also highlighted the need for cooperation and integration among various government agencies and the strengthening of partnerships with the private sector and civil society to achieve more efficient and impactful development outcomes.
The workshop also addressed the most significant challenges that may arise in applying sustainability principles to institutional work and ways to address them practically, as well as raising participants’ awareness of their individual and institutional roles in supporting national priorities and developing their analytical thinking skills to propose innovative solutions and initiatives within the government work environment. Emphasis was also placed on embedding the concepts of transparency and innovation and improving the quality of services provided, thereby contributing to enhanced performance efficiency and building bridges of trust with the community to achieve a sustainable and comprehensive development impact.
The organization of this workshop embodies the College’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 17 on forming partnerships to achieve the goals, and Goal 16 on building strong, effective, and accountable institutions, in line with the University of Baghdad’s strategic vision of leading development and service initiatives.
