The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized workshop titled “Application of Growth Charts in Kindergartens,” presented by Prof. Dr. Khatam Mutashar Hattab and Assistant Professor Huda Wasfi Radwi. The workshop targeted a group of teachers from Al-Firdous Kindergarten, as part of the college’s efforts to strengthen cooperation with educational institutions and utilize academic expertise in the service of the community.
The workshop generally aimed to enable kindergarten teachers to use the “Growth Chart” application efficiently as an accurate professional tool to monitor, assess, and track children’s physical growth, including height and weight, and to link these results to individual educational and instructional plans. Specific objectives also focused on training teachers to interpret growth curves and distinguish between normal and abnormal growth, while mastering the skills of accurately entering measurements and plotting and analyzing charts to detect any early health deviations, as well as enhancing communication skills with parents through simplified reports that ensure partnership in supporting the child’s comprehensive health development while fully adhering to professional confidentiality standards.
The workshop concluded with recommendations emphasizing that the skills acquired by the teachers will positively impact preventive healthcare for every child, stressing that the application of the “growth chart” is no longer merely a supplementary addition but a necessary professional tool for every aspiring teacher seeking excellence in her educational and health performance. This workshop is part of the Continuing Education Unit’s activities to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 on quality education, by integrating health and preventive standards into the educational process to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for future generations.
