The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Nursing, in collaboration with the Basic Sciences Department, organized a large-scale tree-planting campaign on Thursday, April 23, 2026. The campaign featured a unique initiative that included distributing flower seeds and pots to encourage home and school gardening and promote a culture of beauty within the academic community

The initiative aimed to raise environmental awareness. The campaign sought to strengthen women’s role in managing climate change risks, protecting the environment, and improving green spaces both within and outside the college. The event also focused on promoting a culture of preserving ecological balance and reducing pollution through simple yet impactful practical steps that contribute to creating a healthy and clean university environment

The Dean of the College of Nursing, Prof. Dr. Wissam Jabarakasim, praised this wonderful event, commending the simplicity of the idea and the depth of its impact in fostering a spirit of volunteerism among faculty and students. He emphasized that such initiatives directly contribute to supporting women’s role in community service and highlighting their ability to lead positive change in environmental issues The campaign, marked by an atmosphere of cooperation and enthusiasm, concluded with a call from the Women’s Affairs Unit to all segments of society to actively participate in various environmental activities,
while emphasizing the importance of continuing to implement tree-planting initiatives due to their long-term positive impact on individual health and the safety of Iraqi society

This initiative comes in response to the requirements of sustainable development, specifically Goal 13 on climate action and Goal 14 on life below water and the protection of ecosystems. Through these activities, the college seeks to align academic work with global trends aimed at protecting the planet and ensuring a sustainable future for coming generations
