The Faculty of Nursing at Baghdad University discussed the master’s thesis tagged ) Stress and Coping Strategies of Mothers with Premature Baby in Neonate Intensive Care Unit at Pediatric Teaching Hospitals in Baghdad City( for the student Sozan Ali abdulhasan.
The aim of the message : to assess levels of stress and coping of mothers with premature baby, to find out the relationship between socio-demographic characteristics and levels of stress and coping strategies, and to find out the relationship between levels of stress and levels of coping strategies for the mothers.
The letter also included the thesis to the majority of premature babies are males, foremost of them are firstborn, the major of them are admitted to NICU with medical diagnosis of Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS), the highest percentage with gestational age 33-37 weeks, most of them born with birth weight less than 1500 gram, most of mothers are with age group of 25-34, resident in an urban area, married, with low socioeconomic level, and housewives. The majority of mothers have moderate level of total stress, the highest level related to Baby looks and behaves subscale, they have good level of coping, and the most coping style utilized by mothers is the problem focused style. There is negative association between level of stress in mothers with regard babies’ gestational age, and positive association with length of respiratory support, and mechanical ventilation.
The most important recommendations reached by the study: Future researches with a psycho-social interventional program and appropriate counseling towards specific stressors and coping ways is need and the estimate that the researcher got privilege.
