The Fundamentals of Nursing Department at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a scientific field trip for adult nursing doctoral students to Ibn al-Bitar Teaching Hospital for Cardiac Surgery, under the supervision of Associate Professor Hakima Shaker Hassan, a faculty member in the department.
The visit aimed to deepen students’ practical understanding of the role of the nurse leader in clinical nursing management, refine their skills in health assessment and critical decision-making while providing advanced nursing care, and familiarize them with the latest practices in emergency medicine and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and to highlight the importance of prompt intervention in saving patients’ lives and reducing critical complications.
The visit’s program included a tour of the hospital’s critical departments, starting with the cardiac catheterization lab and continuing through the intensive care unit and the cardiopulmonary resuscitation unit; this allowed students to observe clinical workflows and interact directly with specialized medical and nursing staff.
This initiative is part of the college’s plan to enhance the practical skills of graduate students and bridge the gap between theory and field practice, thereby contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 on good health and well-being by improving the quality of healthcare, and Goal 4 on quality education by providing advanced clinical and research training.
