The Academic Affairs Unit at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized workshop titled “The Role of Youth in Decision-Making and Shaping the Future of Universities,” presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Aysan Kamal Muhammad in Lecture Hall 4. The workshop was aimed at fourth-year students
The workshop focused on the critical importance of involving youth in decision-making, as universities—being centers of creativity and innovation—cannot achieve their sustainable development goals without investing in students’ energies and fresh ideas. Participants also emphasized that such participation fosters a sense of responsibility and belonging and directly contributes to the development of educational programs and student services in line with modern global requirements, thereby strengthening the role of educational institutions in advancing society
In conclusion, the workshop resulted in a set of key recommendations emphasizing the need to support student initiatives and projects and provide specialized training programs to develop leadership and decision-making skills, while stressing the importance of strengthening the role of student councils in university decision-making and establishing effective communication channels that support a culture of innovation and teamwork, thereby ensuring the development of more advanced universities capable of achieving comprehensive and sustainable development
This aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 on quality education and falls within the college’s strategic vision to enhance youth participation in developing the university environment and empower them to contribute effectively to decision-making at both the academic and administrative levels
