The University Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized workshop addressing the topic of cybersecurity and its importance in maintaining data privacy, as part of the college’s ongoing efforts to equip students with the knowledge to defend against growing digital threats. The workshop was presented by Assistant Professor Mustafa Wajih Al-Karkhi to fourth-year students in Lecture Hall No. (Continuing to fortify students’ knowledge against growing digital threats
The workshop aimed to introduce participants to the basics of cybersecurity and the difference between it and information security, while highlighting best technical practices for securing smartphones and personal accounts on social media platforms, in addition to raising students’ awareness of the social engineering techniques hackers use to access sensitive data and how to detect suspicious links and files to avoid falling victim to cyberattacks
The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations emphasizing the importance of regularly and thoroughly updating operating systems and using reliable security software, along with the necessity of adopting complex, unique passwords and enabling two-factor authentication. The recommendations also called on students to promote a culture of digital awareness and share these concepts with their social circles to help build a secure digital environment, highlighting the role of the Counseling Unit in providing the necessary technical and psychological support when facing any security breach
This workshop achieves the Sustainable Development Goals through Goal 4, which focuses on quality education and the development of technical skills; Goal 9, related to innovation and secure technological infrastructure; as well as Goal 16, which promotes the building of safe and stable societies through the dissemination of legal and digital awareness and the fight against cybercrime in all its forms
