The University Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized workshop addressing the dangers of cyber extortion. The workshop was held in ( and featured presentations by Assistant Professor Dr. Karim Rashk and Assistant Instructor Mustafa Wajih Al-Karkhi, with active participation from students in Room No. (Fourth Year)
The workshop aimed to raise students’ technical and legal awareness regarding the concept of cyber extortion and the devious methods used to lure victims, with a focus on the psychological and social aspects resulting from this phenomenon, in addition to clarifying the technical measures necessary to secure personal accounts and digital data from hacking or misuse.
The workshop concluded with a set of key recommendations emphasizing the need for caution when navigating the digital space and the activation of security programs and two-factor authentication, while urging students to contact the relevant security authorities and community police directly or consult the college’s psychological counseling unit if they face any threats, to ensure the situation is handled professionally and with complete confidentiality.
This workshop embodies the college’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 on quality education through the development of students’ cognitive skills, Goal 5 aimed at promoting personal safety and equality, as well as Goal 16, which seeks to promote peace and justice and build strong institutions capable of protecting society from emerging crimes
