The College of Nursing at Baghdad University discussed a master’s thesis titled “The effectiveness of an intervention based on the expanded health beliefs model in promoting osteoporosis preventive behaviors among middle school female teachers: A Randomized Controlled Trial”. The student Zahraa Fadel Naji under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Sarab Nasr Fadel in the Great Hall of the College

The thesis aimed to measure the effectiveness of an educational intervention based on the Expanded Health Beliefs Model in improving osteoporosis preventive practices among middle school female teachers.

The study proved the effectiveness of this intervention in improving teachers’ knowledge, beliefs, and behaviors towards osteoporosis prevention. The results also emphasized the importance of enhancing self-efficacy and motivation among individuals and reducing psychological and behavioral barriers associated with health practices, such as physical activity and calcium intake.

The study recommended the development of osteoporosis prevention programs targeting women in particular, with a focus on enhancing their self-efficacy. The researcher received an A for her thesis.

This study aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically the third goal: Good Health and Well-being. By improving osteoporosis preventive behaviors in an important group of women (female teachers), the thesis contributes to the prevention of chronic diseases and the promotion of long-term health. The focus on education and self-empowerment of women is in line with sustainable development efforts to ensure a healthy life for all and promote well-being at all ages, contributing to building a healthier and more sustainable society.
