College of Nursing at Baghdad University organized a workshop entitled “The role of kindergarten teachers in prevention of child abuse” in the presence of a number of teachers and nannies in the kindergarten.

The workshop aimed to support children by educating teachers about the negative effects of child abuse.

The workshop also highlighted the phenomenon of abuse and its types (neglect, physical violence, verbal violence, sexual violence) and its negative effects on the child’s physical and psychosocial condition and direct and indirect return in terms of affecting their mental well-being and proper development. The previous studies have shown an association between violence on children with the emergence of chronic diseases. The symposium also reviewed the role of teachers in preventing this phenomenon, through their direct relationship with children to diagnose signs of neglect and physical and sexual abuse of children

The symposium recommended that attention be paid to children’s mental and physical health, through proper educational treatment, active consultation of relevant health institutions and the use of bodies concerned with the protection of citizens. Attention must also be paid to children’s health because they are the basis for building a healthy and healthy society, free of violence for all its members.
