The Faculty of Nursing at Baghdad University discussed the master’s thesis tagged) Association between Compassion Fatigue of Nursing Staff Working in Neurological Wards and Patient s’ Satisfaction with Nursing Care Quality  (for the student Kawthar Ali Dadoosh.

The aim of the study is assessing compassion fatigue level and determining the association between compassion fatigue of nursing staff and their patient’s satisfaction with the quality of nursing care. Also, it aimed at assessing patients’ satisfaction with nursing care quality.

The letter also included the thesis to Many nurses 63.4% were suffering from a severe level of compassion fatigue. On the other hand, (88.5%) of patients were unsatisfied with the quality of nursing care provided in the neurological wards. A strong statistical correlation between nursing compassion fatigue and patient satisfaction with nursing care quality was authenticated at (Sig (2-tailed) = 0.01 level). The study disclosed a common but undiagnosed phenomenon among Iraqi nurses: compassion fatigue, which may be responsible for low patient satisfaction with nursing care quality.

 

The most important recommendations reached by the study: Preparing future nurses by improving the curricula so that they are equipped with effective strategies for dealing with compassion fatigue. Also, improving nursing leaders’ roles in diagnosing and addressing compassion fatigue among nurses by educating them on the phenomenon of compassion fatigue and effective coping strategies , And the estimate that the researcher got privilege
