In conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month (Pink October), the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized an extracurricular educational workshop titled “Mammography Technique for Early Breast Cancer Detection.”

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Intisar Mudhafara Ouda from the Department of Basic Sciences. The workshop aimed to introduce radiographic mammography screening for detecting breast tumors in their early stages—an imaging exam that uses low-dose X-rays to detect any abnormal changes in breast tissue with high accuracy.

The workshop addressed how and when the exam is performed using the equipment, as well as patient preparation procedures prior to evaluation. Additionally, it reviewed the types of advanced devices, diagnostic technologies, and related complementary tests. The session concluded with a strong recommendation emphasizing the necessity of annual routine screening for every woman over the age of forty to ensure her health, as well as regular follow-ups for women with genetic risk factors.

The organization of this event reflects the College of Nursing’s commitment to supporting public health issues and promoting preventive awareness, directly contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—specifically SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being through promoting early diagnosis and prevention, SDG 5: Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in healthcare, and SDG 4: Quality Education by advancing scientific knowledge and health education.
