The Faculty of Nursing at Baghdad University discussed the master’s thesis tagged) Effectiveness of Incentive Spirometer on The Prevention of Post-Operative Pulmonary Complications following Cardiac Surgeries (for the student Jadeel Noor Faleh.
The aim of the study is to determine the effectiveness of preoperative use of Incentive Spirometer on preventing post pulmonary complications following cardiac surgeries.
The letter also included the thesis to A total of N = 64 patients were assigned to a study group (n=32) who received preoperative Incentive Spirometer training for two days and a control group (n=32), who did not receive the intervention. The primary outcome was the incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications. The secondary outcomes were Peak Expiratory Flow Rate, Arterial Blood Gases, oxygen dependency, prolonged mechanical ventilation and overall hospital stay. Patients in the study group had lower incidence of pulmonary complications compared to the control group (12.5% and 21.8%). Oxygen dependency and prolonged mechanical ventilation were more prevalent in the control group with (25% vs. 12.5%) (15.6% vs 3.1%) respectively. There was a statistically significant difference between the two groups regarding pulmonary function parameters along with the overall hospital stay. The intervention was related to a lower incidence of pulmonary complications, was confirmed to have a positive effect on various pulmonary function parameters, and resulted in a shortening of overall hospital stay.
The most important recommendations reached by the study: Further studies with a larger sample are required to confirm these findings, And the estimate that the researcher got privilege.
