The Faculty of Nursing at Baghdad University discussed the master’s thesis tagged) Determination of the Pain Presence among Intensive Care Unit Patients (for the student Ghufran Emad Bachi.
The aim of the study is to determine the presence and severity of pain among critically ill patients with a diminished level of consciousness. And to compare the pain level at rest, during routine nursing procedures and post-routine nursing procedures within 20 minutes.
The letter also included the thesis to The patient’s silently suffering pain during all three phases of pain assessment, pre-during and 20 minutes post-routine nursing procedures regarding the pain severity differences between three phases (pre, during nursing procedures and post-nursing procedures within 20 minutes) there is a statistically significant difference between the pain score during nursing procedures (time 2) and (time 3); it’s a score within 20 minutes post-nursing procedures (M = -4.011-*, Std. Error =.088, P = 0.000). Of equal importance, also between the pain scores in the (time1) pre-nursing procedures and (time3) post-nursing procedures within 20 minutes, as shown (M = 4.506*, Std. Error =.068, P = 0.000). Additionally, there is a statistically significant difference between time (1) pre-nursing procedures and time (2) during-nursing procedures (M = -4.506-* Std. Error = 0.068, P = 0.000).
The most important recommendations reached by the study: Future studies with a larger sample size that specifically target patients to assess pain in ICU and use the Behavioral Pain Scale and other scales that depend on behavioral response are mandatory. It is also recommended that ICU use up-to-date clinical protocols to measure pain, particularly in Iraqi ICUs , And the estimate that the researcher got privilege.
