The Pediatric Nursing Branch at the University of Baghdad’s College of Nursing organized a field visit to the Specialized Center for Endocrine Glands and Diabetes. The visit included postgraduate students from the Pediatric Nursing Branch and was supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Athraa Hussein Shawq.
The visit aimed to familiarize students with the medical conditions of children suffering from endocrine diseases and diabetes, as well as to introduce them to modern trends in diagnosing and treating endocrine patients. The visit included a tour of the center’s departments, the endocrine and diabetes clinics, and interviews with children and parents affected by diabetes, growth hormone disorders, and hypothyroidism, who are registered for regular follow-up appointments at the center to receive treatment and monitor the children’s progress.
The visit concluded with a set of recommendations presented by the master’s students, focusing on health education for children and their guardians regarding treatment adherence. It was also suggested that simple exercises and healthy sleep habits be incorporated for better health outcomes.
This scientific visit is part of the regular field trips conducted by the College of Nursing to enhance students’ knowledge and practices, and to educate patients and their families about treatment adherence and medical advice that promotes patient health. These initiatives contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and Goal 4 (Quality Education).
