The Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Mental Health Nursing Department at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized an awareness workshop titled “How Do I Deal with Anxiety and Stress as a Nursing Student? Practical Strategies for Managing Psychological Stress,” presented by Lecturer Ahmed Qaisar Jassim and Assistant Lecturer Zahraa Abdul Karim Abdul, and attended by a group of students in Hall No.
The workshop focused on defining the concepts of anxiety and stress and their specific causes among nursing students, while highlighting the impact of academic and clinical pressures on the mental health of future nurses. The presenters also sought to equip students with practical strategies for coping with these pressures and to enhance their time management and study organization skills, thereby ensuring improved academic and clinical performance and providing the necessary psychological support for students throughout their academic journey.
The workshop concluded with a set of insights and recommendations emphasizing that anxiety and stress are natural responses that can be managed by adopting healthy strategies aimed at enhancing psychological resilience and coping skills, while stressing the need for a careful balance between academic pursuits and mental health, and viewing the seeking of psychological support when needed as a positive and necessary step to ensure continuity and success. It also affirmed that these activities are among the regular priorities of the college’s Continuing Education Unit to improve students’ psychological and professional well-being.
This initiative embodies the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 on good health and well-being and Goal 4 on quality education, by fostering a healthy and balanced learning environment.
