The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized workshop entitled “The Use of Virtual Technology in Mental Health: Opportunities and Challenges,” presented by Professor Dr. Hassan Ali Hussein and Assistant Professor Samah Nagimish Sultan. The workshop was attended by fourth-year students in Hall No.
The workshop aimed to review the broad prospects that virtual technology opens up for the health sector, particularly in activating remote treatment programs and employing virtual reality technologies in treating anxiety and post-traumatic disorders, as well as highlighting the importance of artificial intelligence in accurate psychological assessment and follow-up processes, thereby ensuring the improvement of healthcare and expanding its provision to beneficiaries with high efficiency.
The discussion also included an in-depth review of the challenges posed by these modern technologies, particularly with regard to ethical standards and the protection of privacy and security of psychological data, in addition to defining the boundaries of the relationship between therapist and patient in the digital environment, with a focus on the importance of preparing nursing and health cadres who have the necessary skills to use these tools responsibly and safely to ensure the integration of traditional practices and digital innovations.
The workshop concluded that it is necessary to intensify training efforts for specialists and expand the adoption of technology as a tool to support clinical practices, while emphasizing the development of legal regulatory frameworks that protect information security and encourage sound scientific research to assess the long-term effects of these technologies on individuals and society in general.
This workshop achieves the sustainable development goals represented by Goal 3 on good health and well-being and Goal 9 on industry and innovation, as the integration of technology into mental health contributes to building a flexible and comprehensive health system that supports psychological and social stability and ensures the provision of advanced and sustainable care that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. future generations to meet their health challenges.
