The College of Nursing at Baghdad University discussed a doctoral thesis entitled “The effectiveness of an educational program on the knowledge of cardiac arrhythmia patients regarding managing risk factors and reducing complications in the coronary care unit” by student Haider Musa Obaid under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hussein Hadi Attia in the Faculty’s skills hall.

This thesis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational program in improving the knowledge of arrhythmia patients regarding the management of risk factors and minimizing complications in the coronary care unit. The results showed that the educational program significantly contributed to enhancing patients’ understanding of how to manage risk factors and minimize arrhythmia-related complications. Statistical analyses support this conclusion, revealing a significant improvement in the knowledge of study participants.

The study made a number of recommendations, the most important of which is to provide patients with detailed brochures and leaflets explaining post-convalescent care and instructions to follow when discharged from the cardiac care unit. Patients’ awareness and understanding of cardiac arrhythmias should be increased by organizing awareness campaigns and distributing educational brochures. The researcher received a grade of “Very Good” for his dissertation.

This study directly contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 3 on good health and well-being. By developing educational programs that enhance patients’ awareness and understanding of their health condition and how to manage it, individuals can improve their quality of life and reduce the burden on the healthcare system. Enhanced knowledge and risk factor management reduces health complications, leading to more efficient and effective healthcare.
