The Scientific Affairs Division at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized the “Sustainable University Week” festival, which ran for five consecutive days and saw broad participation from faculty, students, and experts. The festival featured a packed schedule of specialized activities, including workshops, an art exhibition of paintings addressing environmental and social issues, intensive scientific lectures, as well as student and academic debates focused on the concepts of sustainable development and mechanisms for their implementation in the Iraqi context.

The festival aimed to instill awareness of the principles of sustainable development and transform them from theoretical concepts into a societal culture and daily behavior on campus, while highlighting the role of academic institutions in addressing environmental and economic challenges. The festival also sought to foster a spirit of innovation among students by showcasing their artistic and scientific works that serve sustainability goals, and to enhance their dialogue and analytical skills through academic debates that addressed national and international development priorities.

The festival achieves a range of Sustainable Development Goals, foremost among them Goal 4 (Quality Education) by disseminating the knowledge and skills necessary to support development, and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering collaboration among various departments and divisions to ensure the event’s success, as well as intersecting with all other goals through workshops and debates covering health, the environment, and social justice—reflecting the College of Nursing’s pioneering role in supporting the University of Baghdad’s strategic goals and its vision for a sustainable future.
