The Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Community Health Nursing Department at the Faculty of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized workshop entitled “Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Epidemiology and Early Detection of Epidemics,” presented by Dr. Houra Ali. The workshop targeted a group of undergraduate students at the college to introduce them to the latest digital technologies in the health sector.

The workshop focused on defining the concept of artificial intelligence, explaining its rapid development and vital importance in the medical field, clarifying the close relationship between these technologies and epidemiology, analyzing the role of artificial intelligence in supporting nursing decisions in the field of community health, and enhancing students’ ability to interpret the results of smart systems and use them in a scientific and ethical manner, while discussing the professional challenges associated with this digital transformation to develop students’ critical thinking towards relying on modern means in public health.

The workshop concluded with a series of key recommendations that emphasized the need to gradually introduce artificial intelligence concepts into nursing and community health curricula and train students in health data analysis skills using modern digital tools, while calling for enhanced collaboration between nursing and information technology colleges to develop interdisciplinary research projects and establishing clear ethical guidelines governing the use of smart technologies in the health field.

This activity is part of the college’s continuing education curriculum and efforts to achieve sustainable development goals, particularly Goal 4 on ensuring quality education by keeping pace with global scientific changes and providing students with the technical skills necessary for their future careers.
