The Continuing Education Unit at the college of Nursing, University of Baghdad, organized a specialized workshop entitled “The Arabic Language: A Vessel for Thought and Memory of the Nation” as part of a series of activities aimed at promoting cultural awareness among students and teachers. The workshop was presented by Dr. Dhiaa Abdul-Kazim Jabr and Assistant Professor Iman Abdul-Jabbar Jamal. The workshop was attended by distinguished members of the teaching staff and students in the college’s main hall.
The workshop aimed to define the future of the linguistic vessel and national memory, emphasizing that the Arabic language is not merely a tool for communication, but rather a cultural vessel that has been shaped over the ages to encompass the sciences of religion, philosophy, and art. It also showed that Arabic literature represents a living memory to which each literary era has added a new layer, making it one of the richest cultural memories in the modern world, which places us with the responsibility of protecting this vessel from linguistic fragmentation resulting from vulgar colloquialism or Westernization, in order to ensure that memory is faithfully passed on to future generations.
At the end of the workshop, a set of important recommendations were reviewed, emphasizing the need to promote conscious reading of literature at all stages of education, the importance of investing in modern technologies to digitize Arab heritage, and pride in linguistic identity as a cultural trust linked to the ethics of training and professional work. This initiative is part of the College of Nursing’s efforts to advance scientific and practical knowledge and achieve a knowledge society that leads to comprehensive and sustainable development in various fields of work, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 4: Quality Education.
