The College of Nursing at Baghdad University discussed a doctoral thesis entitled “Comparison between a soft robotic glove and a rubber ball to restore hand function for stroke patients” by student Tamim Thamer Maayouf under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Baqer Al-Jubouri in the college’s Great Hall.
His thesis aimed to compare the effect of exercises using robotic gloves and those using a rubber ball in restoring hand function for patients who had suffered a stroke.
The results showed that the soft robotic glove significantly improved hand function in 118 patients, with patients who used it showing significant improvements in their grasping ability, strength and mobility.
The thesis recommended that future studies should include the use of soft robots and rubber balls to enhance grip strength in stroke patients. The researcher received a distinction for his outstanding research efforts.
This study is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 3 “Good Health and Well-being”, by seeking to improve the quality of life of stroke patients and enhance their independence and overall well-being.
