The college of Nursing at Baghdad University discussed a master’s thesis entitled “The relationship between symptom burden and comfort level in dialysis patients: A cross-sectional study” by Asaad Rahim Qaid under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hussein Hadi Attia at the college’s museum hall

The thesis aimed to assess the level of comfort and symptom burden in dialysis patients, and determine the relationship between them. The study showed that most patients suffer from a moderate level of comfort and a moderate burden of symptoms. The results also indicated that there is a negative relationship between symptom burden and comfort level, which means that an increase in symptom burden leads to a decrease in patients’ comfort level

The study made several important recommendations, including developing treatment protocols that target the relief of the most common symptoms, such as restless legs, muscle spasms, fatigue, and leg swelling. Providing physical therapy sessions to improve blood circulation and prescribing appropriate supplements or medications after medical consultation to reduce spasms. The researcher received an A for his thesis

The results of this study are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically the third goal related to “good health and well-being”. By improving the comfort level and reducing the symptom burden of dialysis patients, we can contribute to better health care and enhance their quality of life, positively impacting their ability to participate in society and their personal well-being. The recommendations made by the study, such as physiotherapy and nutritional supplements, support a holistic approach to healthcare that emphasizes prevention and continuous improvement, which is in line with the principles of sustainable development.
