The Faculty of Nursing at Baghdad University discussed a master’s thesis entitled “The relationship between self-efficacy and self-care behavior in elderly people with hypertension”, by student Abeer Mohsen Ali, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Zahid Jassim Mohammed in the college’s Great Hall.
The thesis aimed to determine the levels of self-efficacy and its relationship with self-care behaviors in elderly people with hypertension. The results of the study showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between the patient’s ability to care for himself and his confidence in his abilities, and that the level of self-care behaviors in these patients was generally moderate. The study found the need to develop educational and awareness programs to enhance patients’ confidence in their ability to manage their health. These programs could include interactive workshops, individual counseling sessions, and psychosocial support.
This study directly contributes to achieving the third goal of the Sustainable Development Goals: “Good health and well-being”, by empowering older people to better manage their health. The greater an individual’s self-confidence, the greater their ability to lead a healthy lifestyle, reducing chronic health complications, increasing their quality of life, and promoting a healthy and sustainable society for all.
