The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Baghdad discussed a master’s thesis entitled “The effect of lavender, mint and rose oil on pain and anxiety associated with arteriovenous fistula catheterization in hemodialysis patients” by student Abdulrazak Abdulrahman Khalid under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Aqeel Habib Jassim in the college’s graduate studies hall.
The thesis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment using these oils in relieving pain and anxiety in patients during the dialysis process. The study found that aromatherapy with lavender, peppermint, and rose oils significantly contributed to reducing pain and anxiety levels in patients.
The study found the importance of integrating aromatherapy as an adjunctive therapy with nursing care for patients undergoing arteriovenous fistula catheterization.
The study contributes to improving the quality of health care and reducing patient suffering, achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 3 “Good Health and Well-being”, which raises the overall quality of life. In addition, the use of aromatherapy as a complementary therapy enhances the available health care options and supports a more holistic approach to care that focuses on the patient as a whole.
