The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Baghdad discussed the doctoral thesis labeled “Efficacy of intervention based on the model of health belief in improving the commitment of workers to wear personal protective equipment at Diyala General Company: a disciplined rando-based experience” presented by the researcher Nidaa Qahtan Touma Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Wissam Jabbar Qasim in the Al-Kabir Hall at the college.
The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the application of the Health Belief Model (HBM) in improving workers’ perceptions about the importance and necessity of committing to wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in Diyala Public Company. The results showed statistically significant differences (P=0.001) in all concepts of the Health Belief Model Scale related to occupational risk prevention using personal protective equipment in the experimental group, while no material changes were recorded in the control group.
The study concluded that the application of the health belief model demonstrates the importance of using personal protective equipment in preventing occupational risks or accidents in the workplace, and has a positive impact on workers’ behavior and commitment.
The study recommended the need to repeat future studies based on the health belief model on a larger sample of workers in the industrial and manufacturing sectors in Iraq. This repetition aims to enhance the behavior of workers towards the use of personal protective equipment, especially since these industries are the most vulnerable to health risks and accidents that affect employee health and work productivity. The researcher received an excellent appreciation for her thesis. This study achieves the goals of sustainable development represented by Goal 8, decent work, economic growth and the eleventh goal, sustainable cities and communities.
