The Continuing Education Unit at the University of Baghdad’s College of Nursing organized a workshop titled “Pre-Pregnancy Healthcare for Women.” The session was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Aqdas Dawood Salman and attended by a group of professors and staff members in the college’s Continuing Education Hall.
The workshop aimed to educate participants on the importance of healthcare before pregnancy to ensure the birth of healthy children and reduce the psychological and economic burdens that can arise from health issues during pregnancy, emphasizing the principle of “prevention is better than cure.”
Several key topics were covered during the workshop, including understanding the significance of pre-pregnancy healthcare, conducting physical assessments of women, reviewing patients’ medical histories, early identification of major risk factors before conception, and the importance of nutritional supplements to minimize or prevent health complications before pregnancy.
The workshop concluded with several recommendations, primarily emphasizing the importance of routine pre-pregnancy check-ups for pregnant women. These examinations are crucial for determining the health status of both the mother and the fetus. Regular follow-ups during pregnancy and consultations with doctors and healthcare specialists were also stressed to monitor the health of the mother and fetus and to establish a treatment plan if necessary.
This workshop is part of a series of workshops organized by the College of Nursing aimed at developing the professional and scientific capabilities of its academic and administrative staff. It also contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being.
