The University Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Nursing, University of Baghdad, held a counseling workshop specifically for fourth-year students titled \u201cFrom Hesitation to Confidence: Practical Skills for Building Self-Confidence Among University Students.\u201d The workshop was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Wafa Abdul Ali Hattab, Lecturer Dr. Khatam Ghazi Attia, and Lecturer Dr. Shaimaa Muhammad Hussein, in the presence of a group of fourth-year students. It focused on providing direct counseling and psychological support to help students overcome the challenges they face during their academic journey.<\/p>\n
The workshop aimed to empower fourth-year students to manage the feelings of stress and anxiety associated with giving presentations and participating in academic discussions, and to equip them with the psychological and academic skills necessary to manage anxiety and hesitation and overcome psychological pressures during academic presentations and discussions, as well as instilling self-confidence in the students and enhancing their verbal and interactive skills.<\/p>\n
The workshop addressed several key topics, including identifying the psychological and physiological causes of anxiety and stress during academic presentations and even while speaking and interacting with peers, in addition to reviewing skills for organizing thoughts and effectively using body language during presentations before academic committees, and discussing breathing techniques and positive thinking to reduce stress and mental distraction.<\/p>\n
The workshop concluded by focusing on helping students identify their inner sources of strength, overcome social anxiety, and build self-confidence by changing preconceived notions and mental frameworks regarding presentations, thereby contributing to the academic and psychological well-being of students and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, and Goal 4: Quality Education).<\/p>\n
